Website Review

Website: www.middleweb.com and more specifically, http://www.middleweb.com/1stDResources.html

Overview of Site:

I chose this site because at the top of it is the headline, “Help for New Teachers.” We are all interns now and it will not be long before we will be new teachers. We need all the help we can get! This website is basically a collection of resources for middle school teachers. While many of you are interested in teaching high school, I think these resources could still be of use to you.
This website offers a section of resources on classroom management. These resources include teachers’ reflections on their own experiences, a listserv discussion of classroom management, and discipline tips from teachers. I think this section is incredibly valuable, as teachers know that classroom management is crucial to a productive learning environment. I really like the reflections from other teachers. Learning from another person’s experiences can be helpful for all of us as we get ready to have our own classrooms.
Another part of this website is the “Help for New Teachers” section. For those who are ready to start looking for jobs, there is a link to the National Teacher Job Bank that lists positions that are available. This section also includes articles with advice from veteran teachers and from teachers who have just survived their first year of teaching.

Critique of Site:

I think this is a great site that we could all benefit from. Words of wisdom from those who have gone before us can be very helpful and should be taken advantage of. The site is fairly easy to navigate. It lists the resources so that it is easy to find the information that would be helpful to you. There is no need to register for anything to use the information on this site.
